Autumn Sunrise at Mount Sneffels

This is the first true gigapixel panorama I created. The original uncropped panorama measured approximately 4.7 ft. high by more than 32 ft. wide at 300 PPI. The version shown here is cropped to approximately a 1:4 aspect ratio.

I photographed this panorama on the morning of October 5, 2013, from County Road 5 south of Ridgway, Colorado. The night before, temperatures had dropped to about 22°F and a light dusting of snow covered the mountains and trees. Fall colors had begun to change, with the scrub oak displaying deep reds and oranges when I arrived around 6:00 a.m. By 9:00 a.m., because of the hard freeze, much of the foliage had turned brown and many of the aspens were just beginning to change.

The original uncropped panorama was created from 175 individual 22.5-megapixel photographs captured with a Canon EOS 5D Mark III and a Canon 400mm lens at f/8, 1/50 sec., and ISO 100.
