April 25, 2026 – Lake Matheson was the second of two locations we revisited on this trip that we had also visited during our 2019 trip to New Zealand. While my 2019 version of the location remains my 3rd top earning photo within my portfolio, it had a flaw in which the reeds on the left side were slightly soft and out of focus. On this trip I was determine to redo the location using focus stacking to capture a perfectly in focus image. Clouds and rain had been prominent the day before and earlier on this morning. Finally around 9:30am the clouds lifted some for a brief time and I was able to capture this image.
The original full sized photo is derived from 1790 focus bracketed images yielding 124 focus stacked images in a 4 row x 31 column array. I shoot this using my Canon R5 Mark 2, RF 100-400mm zoon lens at 300mm lens, f/11, 1/125th sec., ISO 100.
The original full sized image as shown is:
- 2.84 Gigapixels
- 24,634 x 115,366 pixels
- 82″ x 384″ (6 ft. 10 in. x 32 ft. ) 300 PPI original image size
- Available in 1:4 ratio 12″ x 48″ up to 24″ x 96″ (Significantly Cropped) on Standard Plaque, AlumiPress or PlexiPlaq
