Wanaka Lavender Farm

April 21, 2026 — During our time in Wanaka, New Zealand, one of the locations we wanted to visit was the Wanaka Lavender Farm. The farm is a wonderful place to photograph, particularly during the summer when the lavender is in full bloom.
We first visited Wanaka Lavender Farm in January 2026, during our earlier trip to New Zealand. At that time, the lavender was in full bloom, and the honeybees were busy gathering nectar from the blossoms. The lavender honey sold in the farm’s store was particularly delicious.
When we returned in April, the scene had changed dramatically. The lavender was no longer blooming, but the surrounding trees were displaying beautiful shades of orange, red, and yellow. The colorful autumn foliage, orderly rows of lavender plants, and distant mountains inspired me to create this panoramic photograph.
I photographed this scene using my Canon EOS R5 Mark II and an RF 100–400mm lens set to 300mm. My exposure settings were f/11, 1/125 second, and ISO 100.
To capture fine detail throughout the scene, I recorded 1,790 individual exposures using focus bracketing. These were combined into 124 focus-stacked photographs, which were then stitched together in a four-row panoramic arrangement of 31 images per row.
