This photograph was made on the evening of October 1, 2016, on Owl Creek Road east of Ridgway, Colorado. It had been a mostly overcast afternoon with thunderstorms and very little sunlight. About 10 minutes before sunset, we noticed a gap between the clouds and the horizon that offered the possibility of sunlight breaking through beneath the clouds.

We set up our cameras and waited, hoping for good light at sunset. Right on cue, as the sun dropped below the clouds, Chimney Peak, Courthouse Peak, and the hillsides covered with aspen and scrub oak exploded with color in the late-afternoon light.

Chimney Peak and the surrounding areas were used during the filming of the movies True Grit and How the West Was Won, both starring John Wayne.

  • Standard Plaque prints are available in four finish choices. Finishes are acid-free and ultraviolet (UV) light protected, shielding them against fading and deterioration, and can be wiped down with water or ammonia-free cleaners.
  • We highly recommend Metalized Paper for prints, plaques and PlexiPlaq products. This special paper does an excellent job of bringing out the detail in the photographs.
  • All of our plaques are produced by Duraplaq on photo-quality high-density boards. Numerous mounting styles and edge treatments are available.
  • Approximate lead time for shipping prints is two to three weeks. Plaque mounts and other options are approximately three to four weeks.

The above sizes and mounting options are a small subset of the overall mounting options we offer.
