Angels Window at Cape Royal

June 11, 2020, 3:30 PM — We had driven out to Cape Royal primarily for sightseeing and photography scouting. Despite a wildfire burning some 30 miles to the northwest and another fire burning in southern Arizona, this was one of the clearest days I have ever experienced on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Winds from the southwest had been blowing smoke away from the canyon for the previous couple of days.
Mid-afternoon is not normally the best time of day for landscape photography, but with the exceptional clarity of the air, I could not resist setting up and photographing this panoramic view through Angels Window at Cape Royal.
The original, uncropped panorama consists of 150 individual photographs captured with a Canon 5DS R and Canon 200mm lens at f/13, 1/200 second and ISO 200.

This close-up reveals the historic Desert View Watchtower standing approximately 8.5 miles away, as the crow flies, on the distant South Rim of the Grand Canyon, photographed from Cape Royal on the North Rim. The person standing in the foreground is approximately one-quarter mile from my camera position, providing an interesting sense of scale and perspective. Although the watchtower occupies only a tiny portion of the full panorama, its recognizable architectural details demonstrate the extraordinary resolving power of the original 4.15-gigapixel photograph.

- Standard Plaque prints are available in four finish choices. Finishes are acid-free and ultraviolet (UV) light protected, shielding them against fading and deterioration, and can be wiped down with water or ammonia-free cleaners.

- Approximate lead time for shipping prints is two to three weeks. Plaque mounts and other options are approximately three to four weeks.
