Sept. 30, 2018. 6:00 PM. — Bright Angel Point near North Rim Visitor Center. We had arrived at the North Rim earlier in the afternoon and we drove down to Bright Angel Point to see if we could catch the sunset. Last time I was here was May, 1983, shortly after I had purchased my first SLR, a Canon A1. Due to an unfortunate incident, I had lost all my photos from the 1983 visit. It had been on my Bucket List to return to this location and shoot one of my wall mural photos. Over 35 years the memories of this location had faded and I was unprepared for how stunning the view was at this location.

The day had been overcast and the light had been very flat. I could see that there was a small window below the cloud deck where the sun might have an opportunity to make an appearance near sunset. I made sure I had my rig all setup and ready for the moment the light changed. I waited and sure enough, the sun began to shine through the window. The Lord blessed us with a few minutes of very warm light on the northern rim of the canyon. The southern side was still mostly in the shade and some rain showers were occurring in the mountains to the far south. The South Rim Visitors Center is visible at center of the photo. If you click on the high resolution view and zoom in you can see Bright Angel Trail as it descends into the canyon. There were some clouds behind me that the sun light reflected off of and gave the canyon wall nearest to me on the right an interesting glow.
