Boya Lake Sunrise
Boya Lake Provincial Park, Steward Cassiar Highway, Northern BC, Canada
July 23, 2017 — On our way to Alaska, we stayed at Boya Lake Provincial Park in northern British Columbia, Canada. The park is located approximately 120 kilometers north-northwest of Dease Lake along BC Highway 37, also known as the Stewart–Cassiar Highway. Boya Lake was named after Charlie Boya, a First Nations man from the area.
The following morning, I awoke to a beautiful sunrise over the lake. The water was exceptionally calm, reflecting the distant mountains, evergreen forests, scattered clouds, and brilliant morning sunlight. The scene was so beautiful that I simply had to set up my camera and attempt to capture the magnificent landscape God had painted for us.
What particularly attracted me was the remarkable symmetry between the landscape and its reflection. The sun and clouds were mirrored in the still water, while the dark silhouettes of the distant mountains and forested shoreline provided a striking contrast with the brilliant morning sky.
Creating this panorama was particularly challenging because of the extreme range of brightness between the rising sun and the darker forested areas on the right. Fortunately, my Sony a7R II was able to capture an impressive amount of detail across the scene.
I created the panorama from 112 individual photographs using my Sony a7R II and a Canon 70–200mm lens set to 200mm. The exposure settings were f/16, 1/1000 second, and ISO 800. The resulting stitched image contains approximately 1.71 billion pixels, preserving the intricate details of this beautiful northern British Columbia landscape.

- Standard Plaque prints are available in four finish choices. Finishes are acid-free and ultraviolet (UV) light protected, shielding them against fading and deterioration, and can be wiped down with water or ammonia-free cleaners.
- We highly recommend Metalized Paper for prints, plaques and PlexiPlaq products. This special paper does an excellent job of bringing out the detail in the photographs.
- All of our plaques are produced by Duraplaq on photo-quality high-density boards. Numerous mounting styles and edge treatments are available.
- Approximate lead time for shipping prints is two to three weeks. Plaque mounts and other options are approximately three to four weeks.
