Bow Lake North Shore

July 12, 2019 — This photograph was captured from the north shore of Bow Lake in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada, looking south and southwest across the beautiful turquoise waters of the lake.

The towering mountain dominating the center of the panorama rises dramatically above the shoreline, its rugged rock faces and broad slopes contrasting with the brilliant blue-green water below. Additional mountain peaks extend across the horizon, while billowing clouds and patches of blue sky add depth and drama to the landscape.

What particularly appeals to me about this scene is the contrast between the peaceful waters of Bow Lake and the immense scale of the surrounding Canadian Rockies. The wide panoramic composition captures the expansive mountain scenery while preserving the intricate textures of the rocky slopes, distant peaks, and forested shoreline.

I photographed this scene using my Canon EOS 5DS R with a 200mm focal length, f/11, 1/640 second, and ISO 200. The original panorama was assembled from 120 individual photographs arranged in a 4-row by 30-column array. After stitching and cropping to a 4:1 panoramic format, the finished image contains approximately 3 billion pixels, providing exceptional detail for fine art prints and large-format wall murals.
