Bow River View

Banff National Park, Alberta Canada

July 8, 2019 — Jean and I had traveled into the town of Banff for some R&R, a nice lunch, and a little sightseeing. On our way back to our RV campground, we were driving along the Trans-Canada Highway when I spotted this beautiful view. I couldn’t resist pulling over to photograph it.

The Bow River winds gracefully through a forest of evergreen trees, with Castle Mountain rising dramatically on the left and Helena Peak just left of center. The rugged Canadian Rockies provide a magnificent backdrop, while the river’s gentle curves lead the eye through the forest toward the distant mountain peaks.

What attracted me to this scene was the combination of the winding river, the dense forest, and the dramatic mountains beneath a sky filled with billowing clouds. The contrast between the turquoise water, green forest, and blue-gray mountains creates a wonderful sense of depth across the panorama.

I created this photograph by stitching together 36 individual exposures arranged in a 3-row by 12-column array. The images were captured with my Canon EOS 5DS R using a 200mm lens setting, f/11, 1/160 second, and ISO 100. The resulting high-resolution panorama preserves the intricate details of the forest, river, and surrounding mountain landscape.
