June 28, 2024 — I had seen photos taken from this overlook to the south of the Grand Prismatic Spring. I placed this spot at the top of my bucket list for our 2024 Yellowstone trip. We got up at 4am to drive from our campsite at the Fishing Bridge RV park to the trail head to this overlook. Arriving at 5am I hiked up to the overlook only to find that because of the very cool morning the steam from the spring totally obscured the pool. We went back later in the afternoon around 4pm and we hiked back to the overlook only to find dozens of people waiting in line to take their selfie photo. The good news was that the pool was fully visible with less steam in the afternoon heat. I finally managed to squeeze into a spot and set up my rig.
I shot this at the same 165mm focal length. All the nearby trees required that I shoot it as a focus bracketed set of images. There were some 608 individual focus bracketed images used to create this shot. My settings were 300mm, f/13, 1/160th sec. ISO 400
