Commissioned Photography
I will undertake custom photographic work as a commissioned work. I specialize in gigapixel sized commercial, real estate, sporting events, collector cars and landscape photography using natural light. I will only take on a work where the customer wants images of 500 megapixels or larger.
A photographic package includes:
- Photographic session
- Professional stitching, Photoshop retouching and finishing of the photographs
- A personal online ‘Light-box’ for viewing of the images
- A thumb drive(s) containing all the finished images.
How the package works
I will travel to the location of your choice and work for as long as is required to full fill your requirements. Distances greater than 50 miles from Longmont, Colorado will require reimbursement for travel, meals and lodging costs. I then make a selection of the best images, which I professionally finish using Photoshop to prepare them for printing. When I am satisfied with the results I upload sample images to your personal online ‘Light-box’, where you can view the photographs, for approval. Once approved and final payment is made, I will send you a disc or thumb drive with the finished images.
We can provide printing
I will always provide you with a DVD or USB drive containing all the finished image files. We can provide Giclee prints in sizes up to 60″ x 300″. As a professional photographer any prints must be provided by me to assure absolute top quality. As a commissioned work, the customer will own the copyrights. This assures that the photograph will remain a unique “One of a Kind” work of art.
The aim of my commissioned photographic work is to offer quality rather than quantity. I take on a limited number of photographic commissions between my filming work.
A days shoot with a couple of subjects might result in 1-2 final images that will usually be at least 1 Gigapixel or larger in size. Additional Images that I judge not to be good enough quality to warrant hand finishing will be culled. The number of images is small because of the incredible amount of time required to set up and shoot a gigapixels sized image. Each image may require as many as 2000 or more individual images to be acquired to form the finished image.
The hand finishing (refining of the captured image prior to printing) has always been an integral part of the photographic process. This process is time consuming and I tend to make a very critical initial selection of images to work on. A large event will result in a greater number of images that require finishing, and will therefore command a higher fee.
What the package costs
My commissioned photographic packages start at $1495 per finished digital image file plus travel expenses when greater than 50 miles from Longmont, Colorado. This would be for a one day shoot in an informal setting resulting in 1 – 2 finished 500 megapixel to 1000 megapixel images. For images that require greater than 1000 megapixels, an up-charge will be added amounting to $100 per 100 megapixels exceeding 1000 megapixels. For large multi day events the cost is billed $1495 (+ up-charge for large images) per finished image plus a time and availability charge of $250/day, plus travel costs, lodging and meals. The exact cost would depend on the duration of the shoot, and the number & sizes of finished images expected by the client. Not responsible for bad weather. I require a 50% deposit for the proposed job prior to starting the project. If the project is canceled before starting due to unforeseen circumstances the deposit will be refunded. For multi-day shoots, if weather prevents shooting on a particular day, we will still bill for travel, lodging and meals.
Guideline to approximate print costs:
- The prints are Giclee prints using 99 year archival inks and high quality paper and are made at a professional lab.
- For example, a 2 ft. x 8 ft. print would run $838 per print.
- Prints will be quoted based on size at $0.30 per sq. in.
- Wall Mural sized reproductions will be quoted based on size, materials required and installation if required. Rapid changes in the cost of producing wall murals requires quotes good for maximum of 30 days.
I can also arrange for mounting and/or framing of prints. Mounting and framing will need to be quoted per piece basis depending on the size and specification for mounting type, glass and frame.
