July 30, 6:30M. — Point Sublime had been on my Bucket List as a location to do a 180° panorama targeting for at least 5-6 Gigapixels. We drove the 12 some miles of rough 4×4 Point Sublime Trail the previous evening and shot the sunset. Having spent the night shooting a time lapse of the night sky, we anxiously awaited the sunrise to capture the morning light. The Monsoon moisture had moved in early in the morning and a mostly overcast sky greeted us at sunrise. The sunrise light leaked through gaps in the clouds, turning some shafts of Virgo rain pink beyond the far southern rim. The haze from the day before had dissipated some and we had a clear view to the distant South Rim. This shoot starts at due east and finishes due west. Click on the above image to enjoy a high resolution virtual tour of the image that allows you to zoom and pan to explore areas of the canyon no visitor would ever get to see with the naked eye. About 1/3rd of the way from the left side you can catch a glimpse of the Colorado River. Zooming in you will see rapids where the river passes through a narrow area of the canyon.
