April 3, 2014. — Delicate arch, also referred to as “the Chaps” or “the Schoolmarm’s Bloomers” by local cowboys because of it’s distinctive shape. A spring snow squall obscures the La Sal Mountains behind Delicate Arch as the arch itself waits for the warming rays of sunrise to illuminate it. In this panorama I wanted to try to capture the vastness of the area and the contrasting colors of the landscape. The defused light gives the sandstone it’s deep red color. On the horizon in the right hand portion of the shot, Elephant Butte and the Garden of Eden glow a purplish pink in the early morning sun . This image is made up of 320 individual image shot using 800mm, f/13, ISO 100.
