June 28, 2024 — Jean & I had gotten up well before sunrise on this morning so that I could drive to the Grand Prismatic Spring overlook trailhead. When I finished my early morning shoot there we drove to the Black Sand Geyser Basin. A lesser known, less visited area of the park very near Old Faithful, this area has its own unique beauty. The Opalescent Pool is not an active hot spring but rather is fed by Spouter Geyser up stream from it. Thus the water is cooler and different bacteria grow in the pool resulting in it’s unique colors. Dead trees with silica-solidified bases surround the pool and stand in the runoff.

This is a focus bracketed set of images. There were some 2,439 individual focus bracketed images used to create this shot. My settings were 200mm, f/11, 1/400th sec. ISO 400
