Milky Way Over Lake Irene
Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado
Lake Irene sits on the western side of Rocky Mountain National Park about 1/4 mile off of Trail Ridge road. This image was take at about 11 PM on Aug. 3,13. The nearly New Moon did not rise that night until 3AM so it was nearly pitch black except for the light from the stars. After the 1/4 mile hike and being away from car lights for several minutes ones eyes began to adjust to allow us to see the stars and Milky Way. The glow of the lights from Grand Lake illuminates a few misty clouds above the horizon at the end of the lake. Numerous stars and the Milky Way are reflected on the mirror smooth lake.
This image was shot with Canon 5Diii at F 2.8, 30 second exposure time and ISO 6400 using a 14mm lens. A flood light was turned on for a few seconds and swept across the lake to Light Paint the trees and the lake surface.
