First Light On Half Dome

Oct. 15, 2019 7:15 AM. — I had planned this shoot for a couple years wanting to capture a shoot of the first rays of sunlight striking Half Dome. Got up at 4AM to drive some 60 miles from our campground to Glacier Point. Arrived about 6:30AM and waited for the sun to start rising. As soon as there was enough light to hike by I carred my gear to this location, sat up and waited for the first rays of light to start peeking over the horizon. At that time I started shooting. This is the result.

This image was shot with Canon 5DSR, Canon 70-200mm lens @200mm, f/13, 1/40th sec. exposure, ISO 125. It is made up of 100 images, 4 rows x 25 columns 25% overlap in portrait orientation to produce final image measuring 89″ x 356″.

  • Standard Plaque prints are available in four Finish Choices. Finishes are acid-free and ultra violet (UV) light protected, shielding it against fading and deterioration and can be wiped down with water or any ammonia-free cleaners.
  • We highly recommend the Metalized Paper for prints, plaques and PlexiPlaq products. This special paper does an excellent job of bringing out the detail of the photos.
  • All of our plaques are produced by Duraplaq on photo quality High Density boards. Numerous Mounting Styles are available along with many Edge Treatments.
  • Approximate lead time for shipping of Prints is 1 week. Plaque mounts and other options 2 weeks.
