How I create my Gigapixel Photography Wall Mural photos.

A bit about the photographer…

John Freeman’s Bio:
In the Beginning:

It was Christmas 1964 when I got my first camera, a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye. I was 13 years old and for a young boy in the 1960’s, film and processing was expensive. Each roll of film only took 12 pictures. Living in Wyoming we had to send the film off to a developer “Back East”. You would drop the film and about $3 in the mail and two or three weeks later your pictures would show up with a fresh roll of film. I remember the Fall of 1965 when I went to Jackson Hole with my Dad on an elk hunting trip. I used a whole roll of film taking pictures of the Grand Tetons. As many of the photos on this sight testify, the Tetons are still one of my favorite subjects to photograph.

The little Brownie served me well through my high school years. During my Junior and Senior years I spent hours in the school’s dark room helping my chemistry teacher develop photos for the annual yearbook. It was always a thrill when he would let me use his 35mm camera. I would take pictures around school and at sporting events for use in the school Annual.

The Growing Years:

I graduated High School in spring of 1969. About two weeks before graduation I managed to convince the chief engineer at KTWO – Channel 2, the TV station in Casper, WY to hire me as a TV cameraman. It was a big change for this country farm boy to move to the “big” city. For the next year I worked at the station learning the in’s and out’s of videography. In addition, the station had a operational dark room that was used to process still photography. That summer they purchased a new 16mm movie film processor which I participated in setting up and operating. One of my jobs was to process any 35mm still photos or 16mm movie film the news crews took during the day. It had to be ready for the 5 o’clock news.

Marriage, children and life happened and many years passed. My interest in photography always seemed to take a back burner. Finally, in 1983, I was able to afford my first real 35mm SLR camera. It was a Canon A1. I used it for the next 29 years, until it finally wore out. During those years I developed my skills at photography.

In 2009 I replaced the old A1 with a Canon 5Di and entered the world of Digital Photography. I was totally hooked and was soon re-learning Photoshop that I had used some in the 90’s when it first came out. I was soon using Photoshop to stitch groups of photos together in a quest to get bigger & higher resolution photos. In Dec. 2011, my wife Jean chipped in, as part of my Christmas present, to help purchase a Gigapan head and I began to develop my Ultra High Resolution Photo skills. In 2013 I upgraded the 5D to a 5Diii. In 2018 I purchased a 50 megapixel 5DSR. Presently, I am shooting with the Canon R5 which has focus bracketing capability that allows me to easily shoot focus stacked panoramas. These days, my wife and I are both fully retired and spend as much time as possible traveling to all sorts of photo destinations in our RV to capture that next “Great Shot” of God’s wondrous creation. There is nothing quite like standing on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon at sunrise as He presents a new day.

Life’s Trails

Life’s journey takes us down many roads. One road that I am thankful that I took was developing a personal relationship with my Creator. At age 25 I accepted Jesus as my Savior. That road has had many bumps, detours and missed turns. I often made bad choices, turned my back to Him and took the wrong road. But He always manages to get me back on course one way or another.

The purpose of this web sight is to generate revenue to allow us to support and do Christian Mission work around the world. Our goal is to use my photography and videography skills assist Christian missions in fund raising, developing curriculum for Christian education and taking the Christian message to the world. We have in the past, and plan to in the future, make trips to various locations in the USA and around the world to do photo and video documentaries of those missionaries work to assist them in raising funds for the mission’s work. Profits from the web sight may be used to fund trips to do these documentaries. It is our goal to donate 10% of the profits from Abba’s Creations Photography to support missions work.

Work History:

An Electromechanics Engineer (Electrical/mechanical engineer) by trade, I worked as an R&D Design Engineer for the disc drive industry starting in 1982. I designed electro-mechanical test tools and software to support the testing of disc drive components. Oct. of 2014 the disc drive career came to an end with a RIF at the company I was working at. At that time I made the decision to formally retire and focus full time on photography and videography.

“Abba’s Creations Photography” was established in 2011 as a “for profit” photography business that I started with the intention of using the profits to support our present and future missions service. Now that I am fully retired, we are continuing to use profits as a means to support ourselves to do various missions projects.

I also operate “Abba’s Video Services” which is a not-for-profit videography and video editing service offered at no cost to Christian organizations. I have been offering this service since Jan. 2008. In May of 2021, I partnered with TECH Team Advantage as a volunteer doing their Video production work.

Favorite Bible Verses:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. – John 1:1-5

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun. It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, like a champion rejoicing to run his course. It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is deprived of its warmth. – Psalm 19: 1-6

About Our Business Name:

Abba is an Aramaic word (the language spoken by Jesus in Biblical times) that most closely translates to our modern word Daddy. As a Believer in Jesus Christ, the Bible teaches that we can reach out to the Father addressing Him as Abba. Thus, our business name, Abba’s Creations Photography translates to Daddy’s Creations photography.

One of the things I always try to be aware of is, when I look through the view finder, that the image I see is, in every case, the handy work of our Creator God, the God of the Bible. As I frame my shot and prepare to take a photo, it is always in the back of my mind that I am capturing His handiwork. I strive to honor Him with every photo I take by doing my best to take a photo that exhibits the wonder of our Creator’s awesome creation.
